Onyx Client Terms of Service

Version 2 — effective 16 October 2026

1. Operator and scope

Revealed SMP operates Onyx Client and the connected Onyx services, with operations in Germany and the United Kingdom. Contact us at disputes@revealedsmp.com. These terms cover the launcher, its update and account-activity services, and Onyx website features. They do not replace Microsoft's, Mojang's, a server operator's or a content provider's own terms. Our Privacy Policy explains personal-data processing separately.

Onyx is an independent project. It is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. Upstream contributors and third-party providers are not parties to your agreement with Revealed SMP merely because their software or services are used.

The required sign-in notice described here is implemented in the official Onyx Client 2.8.5 release and later builds retaining this feature. Older or independently modified builds may behave differently. Re-acknowledging these policies while an eligible account is already signed in can also trigger the notice.

2. Agreement, eligibility and changes

Read the terms and privacy notice before accepting. Acceptance records the policy versions and a local acceptance time. A material policy update requires renewed acknowledgement in the launcher. Changes apply prospectively, subject to mandatory law; a later version does not rewrite an earlier transaction or retroactively authorize unrelated data use.

The connected services are intended for people aged 13 or older. If you are below the age of legal majority or cannot enter an agreement yourself, use them only with the permission and involvement required from a parent or guardian. Local age, parental-authority and data-protection rules still apply. Do not misrepresent your age or authority. Contact us if a child has provided data contrary to these requirements.

If you do not agree, do not use the connected services and do not sign in through them. Declining does not remove rights independently granted by the GPL or other open-source licences. Existing local files remain yours; uninstalling the launcher is not a request to delete data held by third-party services.

3. Required sign-in notification

After you acknowledge the current policies and successfully sign in with a Microsoft-backed Minecraft account, Onyx automatically attempts to send a required account-activity notice through revealedsmp.com to the private Revealed SMP staff Discord channel. There is no ordinary player setting to switch this notice off while using the connected sign-in flow.

The notice contains your Minecraft UUID, a skin-head image associated with that UUID, the terms and privacy versions, the client-reported acceptance time, the launcher version and the notice's delivery time. The public Minecraft profile is matched through Mojang's profile service; MCHeads provides the public head image. Sign-in and policy acceptance are reported by the launcher, not independently attested by Mojang. We do not include your email, Microsoft password, Microsoft or Minecraft access token, refresh token, verification code, IP address, worlds, chat messages or local files in the Discord notice.

The stated purposes are maintaining accountable connected-account activity, investigating reported abuse and supporting the operation and security of Onyx services. This is disclosed required processing, not an optional marketing consent. Accepting these terms acknowledges the notice; it is not a blanket consent to other processing or a waiver of privacy rights. The Privacy Policy explains our stated lawful basis, retention and how to object or request deletion. We must assess those requests under applicable law, even though the normal product setting is required.

Duplicate suppression, rate limits, an outage, a privacy exception required by law or a delivery failure may prevent a notice. We do not claim guaranteed delivery. A Discord receipt is not conclusive proof of age, informed acceptance, a binding contract or every subsequent use of the account.

4. Software licence and intellectual property

The covered launcher source is distributed under GPL-3.0-only. Original copyright notices, attribution and third-party licences accompany the software and corresponding source. That licence governs your rights to run, inspect, copy, modify and redistribute covered code; these service terms do not withdraw those rights or impose incompatible restrictions on them.

Other components, game assets, content and trademarks may have separate licences. A software licence does not grant ownership of Minecraft, another person's account, or protected branding. Do not claim that your modified build is officially operated or endorsed by Revealed SMP, Microsoft, Mojang or an upstream project unless that is true. Respect applicable copyright, trademark and other third-party rights.

5. Accounts and credentials

Use an account you own or are authorized to use. Microsoft and Mojang determine authentication, ownership, entitlements and account restrictions. An Onyx website account is separate from a Minecraft account. Creating one does not purchase Minecraft or bypass its licensing requirements.

Keep your device, tokens, accounts and recovery methods secure. Do not share a local launcher data folder with people who should not access its credentials. Onyx does not need your Microsoft password to be sent to Revealed SMP or Discord. Report suspected compromise promptly; staff will not ask you to post tokens or passwords in a Discord channel.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use connected services to commit unlawful acts, steal credentials, impersonate others, infringe rights, harass people, distribute malware, evade lawful account restrictions or deliberately damage services. Do not forge sign-in receipts or policy acknowledgements, abuse notification endpoints, spam the webhook relay, or interfere with another user's data or access. This does not prohibit legitimate open-source modification, interoperability or authorized security research.

Server rules remain the responsibility of each server operator. Installing or using a mod does not mean a particular server permits it. We do not promise that a mod, configuration or launcher version will prevent a server ban. Revealed SMP server access may be subject to separately published server rules and moderation decisions.

7. Downloads, updates and third-party content

Onyx contacts external providers to authenticate accounts, retrieve version metadata, obtain Java or game files, browse or install content, and deliver updates. Their availability, content, terms and privacy practices may differ from ours. Inclusion or a link is not an endorsement or a guarantee that content is safe, lawful or compatible.

Native updates use signature and checksum verification. These checks identify bytes authorized by the update signing key; they do not establish that software has no bugs or security defects. Windows publisher signing is a separate mechanism. Update installation asks for confirmation. You remain responsible for selecting suitable versions and maintaining backups before updating, installing mods or changing game data.

8. Your files and backups

Worlds, settings, mods, screenshots and other game files can be affected by game versions, third-party software, storage failures and user actions. Keep independent backups of important files. We do not promise to recover lost, corrupted or deleted data. This warning does not exclude liability that applicable law requires us to bear.

9. Website features and communications

Website registration, email verification, password reset, preferences, moderation and campaigns follow the features enabled on the site. Transactional account emails are distinct from promotional subscriptions. Promotional messages must respect applicable consent, objection and unsubscribe requirements. Do not include secrets in support requests or user-generated content.

These terms do not create a paid subscription or a purchase. Any future paid offer must identify the seller, price, required pre-contract information and its applicable cancellation, refund and consumer rights at the point of sale. A feature described in another launcher's policies is not automatically an Onyx feature.

10. Availability, changes and suspension

We may maintain, change or discontinue connected features for operational, security or legal reasons. We may restrict abusive or unlawful use and take proportionate action to protect users and services. Where appropriate and lawful, we will provide notice or a way to question an account decision. Urgent security incidents or legal restrictions may prevent advance notice.

We do not promise uninterrupted service, compatibility with every device, perpetual support, or continued availability of another provider's APIs. Suspension of a connected service does not revoke an independently granted open-source licence or ownership of your files.

11. Warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law and the relevant open-source licences, the software and connected services are supplied as available, without promises of uninterrupted operation, error-free performance or fitness for every intended purpose. Recommendations and automated checks are not professional advice or a guarantee against loss.

This clause does not remove mandatory rights concerning digital products, conformity, remedies, consumer guarantees or other obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded. Express commitments that bind us under applicable law are not erased by a general disclaimer.

12. Responsibility and limits of liability

Each party is responsible to the extent provided by applicable law. Where the law permits, we exclude liability for unforeseeable losses and indirect business losses, including lost profits or business opportunities. A free open-source licence may contain its own lawful warranty and liability provisions.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, intentional misconduct, gross negligence where non-excludable, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability or statutory remedy that the law does not allow us to exclude. Applicable German rules concerning essential contractual duties, foreseeable typical damage and mandatory liability remain unaffected. Applicable UK and other consumer protections remain unaffected.

For a user acting wholly for business purposes, and only where enforceable, our aggregate contractual liability is limited to the greater of EUR 100 or the amounts paid to us for the affected service in the preceding 12 months. This business-only limit does not apply to the non-excludable matters above and is not a cap on a consumer's mandatory rights.

You may be responsible for loss caused by your unlawful or culpable misuse to the extent the law provides. We do not impose an unlimited consumer indemnity or make you responsible for losses caused by our own legally attributable wrongdoing.

13. Complaints, law and courts

Please send a clear description of a dispute to disputes@revealedsmp.com so we can try to resolve it. Informal discussion is encouraged, but it is not a compulsory barrier to urgent remedies, regulatory complaints, court proceedings or statutory deadlines.

Applicable law and competent courts are determined by the relevant conflict-of-law, jurisdiction and consumer-protection rules. A user's mandatory protections based on their habitual residence are not removed because Revealed SMP operates in Germany and the UK. We do not impose compulsory arbitration, an automatic class-action waiver or a promise that you can never bring us to court.

No terms can guarantee immunity from lawsuits, complaints or regulatory action. A disagreement about a clause does not authorize either party to ignore mandatory law.

14. General provisions and contact

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue only to the extent permitted by law; an invalid consumer term is not automatically rewritten to the most aggressive possible restriction. A delay in enforcing a right is not necessarily a waiver. Transfers of service responsibilities must respect applicable notice, contract and data-protection requirements.

For legal, privacy and dispute requests, contact disputes@revealedsmp.com. Include enough information to identify the issue or Minecraft UUID involved, but never send passwords, access tokens, refresh tokens or recovery codes.
